About the Symposium
The Antenna Measurement Techniques Association (AMTA) is a non-profit, international organization dedicated to the development and dissemination of theory, best practices, and applications of antenna, radar signature, and other electromagnetic measurement technologies. The 2020 Annual Meeting and Symposium was held as a virtual event hosted by Rohde & Schwarz, with the host committee chaired by Joe Mallon.
The program drew professionals, researchers, and students working across antenna measurement, radar signature analysis, and wireless technologies, offering technical sessions, speaker presentations, a short course, and an exhibitor directory.

Program Highlights
The keynote address, "Over-The-Air Testing Using Plane-Wave Synthesis: from Theory to Realization," was delivered by Dr. Benoît Derat of Rohde & Schwarz, Senior Director of Development (1SE) EMC, OTA, Antenna and A&D Test Systems. Featured speaker categories also included EurAAP and IEEE AP-S invited presentations.
- Technical sessions covered Antenna Measurements, Near-Field Measurements, Measurement System Design and Methods, Antenna Design and Analysis, Automotive Radar, Sensors and Applications, and 5G and Wireless Applications.
- Printed Proceedings of the symposium were available for $50.00.
- Abstract submissions were managed through the CATALYST system by Omnipress, with a June 1, 2020 deadline.
- Student Day activities were coordinated by Dr. Rick Vaccaro of the University of Rhode Island.
The Antenna Measurement Techniques Association has long served as the central hub for professionals working in antenna, radar signature, and electromagnetic measurement technologies. Through its annual gatherings, the organization fosters collaboration among researchers, engineers, and industry leaders who share a common interest in advancing measurement theory and practice. The exchange of ideas at these events helps shape the direction of the field and strengthens the global community dedicated to precision and innovation in electromagnetic testing.
Each year, the symposium brings together a rich technical program featuring peer-reviewed papers, invited talks, and practical sessions that span the full spectrum of measurement disciplines. Topics range from fundamental theory and novel measurement techniques to real-world applications in radar cross-section analysis, radome design, and antenna characterization. Presenters and attendees alike benefit from the rigorous yet collegial atmosphere that defines AMTA gatherings, where constructive dialogue drives the discipline forward.
A hallmark of the event is the opportunity for students and early-career professionals to engage directly with seasoned experts. Dedicated student sessions, travel scholarships, and mentorship opportunities create pathways for the next generation of measurement specialists to build their knowledge and professional networks. The association remains deeply committed to education and outreach, recognizing that the continued vitality of the field depends on cultivating fresh talent and encouraging diverse perspectives within the technical community.
The exhibitor and sponsor presence at the symposium reflects the close partnership between the association and leading companies in the measurement industry. Organizations offering advanced instrumentation, software, and services showcase their latest capabilities, giving attendees hands-on exposure to cutting-edge tools and techniques. These interactions often spark new collaborations and provide practical insights that complement the technical sessions, making the exhibit floor an essential part of the overall symposium experience.
While the 2020 edition was held in a virtual format, the spirit of connection and shared purpose remained undiminished. Remote presentations, digital exhibit spaces, and online networking opportunities allowed participants from around the world to engage meaningfully without the need for travel. The adaptability demonstrated by the community underscored the resilience of the association and its members, proving that the pursuit of measurement excellence transcends any single venue or format.
